The class of 2015 participated in an international Python coding competition through Grok Learning. Python is a widely used programming language by companies such as Google and Reddit. The 5 week competition was a series of weekly coding lessons and challenges. The competition had people from all over the world including Australia, England, Belgium, and US. 29 of the Foshay Tech Academy students placed in the top 60 on the leaderboard.
Here are some quotes from the students about their experience: Karina( 30th place): I learned a lot from this experience and not all of it was related to coding. I learned how to deal with difficult situations, how to deal with a problem I wasn't sure about, and how to work with my peers when I needed help. I got a better understanding of Python and it was very rewarding when I would figure out a problem. I actually placed 30th on the leader board which was exciting because the competition involved students from places like Australia. Steven V: I placed in the top 50 overall. I learned to use Python to code and also learned patience, because programming takes time. Overall learning Python was very educational and fun at the same time! Diana F: .. being in this competition was a great experience, and challenging. I learned many skills by working with my peers, and figuring things out. Yes it was complicated at times, but I learned to be patient and not give up. " Teresa: I learned that many major companies use Python to program and that though it was complicated and challenging it got me thinking and problem solving. Learning to use Python was amazing; even though I did not complete every part of the competition I still enjoyed programming and learning new things. This was an accomplishment for me because I didn't expect to be on the leaderboard. I felt really good because I tried my best while being in the competition. I learned that by working hard and problem solving one can accomplish great things. |
