Senior Project: Students will be designing apps or games that focus on empowering their school or community.
We are looking for mentors that are working professionals in the web or mobile application space who have experience in the product development process as designers, product managers or developers, on a day to day basis. The ideal mentor will also want to help students learn to take their work seriously and give them a true to life career experience.
We are looking for a total of 10 individual mentors who will work with a team of five students to help them design and create a prototype for an app or game. We are looking for people to guide conversations that will focus on user interface and user experience as well as planning and communicating their ideas.
All mentors must also be available to come to the school on November 14th for the final Presentations.
DATES: Thursday, October 1st, 1:15pm - 3:30 pm Pitch Day - Listen to teams of seniors pitch their app/project idea to solve or address an issue in their community. Volunteers will critique, ask questions, give guidance or words of warning and encouragement Looking for 4-8 volunteers Thursday, October 15 and October 29th - 1:15pm - 3:30 pm 12th grade Mentor Day - Mentors meet with teams of seniors to review their business plan and storyboard layout of their app/ project idea. There will be 10 teams. Looking for people who will then email and check in with groups or come by every other week to help support progress.
Thursday, November 19th 12- 3 12th Grade - Final Pitch Presentations - Seniors formally present the projects they created along with a demonstration. Mentors will ask questions, give feedback and fill out evaluations ranking the best projects. All mentors welcome
HOUR OF CODE DAY - December 7th 10am - noon 10am - 11am - Tech Fair 11:00 - 11:30 - public comment from leaders 11:30 - noon - Refreshments
